ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th and it is a highly religious festival for most of the christianity that has spread globally. It is a festival celebrated by billions of christians and non-christians around the world. It greatly varies in terms of celebration as several sects of christianity have been evolved over the centuries and thus, the festival has different ways of celebrations in every other region with every distinct population.

Christianity hasn’t kept this festival so strictly to themselves but rather has given out the joy of positivity, as said earlier, to all the people around the world. Obviously, even festivals of diwali and eid are no longer limited to specific religions but Christmas is that one-of-a-kind festival that has embraced almost all of humanity currently existing on the planet of earth. It was not specifically known that Lord Jesus was born on the day of December 25 but it was a long time ago that the church in early centuries had fixed this date and today, it has been called as that time of the year when people start holidaying and spending more time with their family. They share the warmth all together in the midst of cold and sometimes harsh winters.

We can sometimes call it an euphoria that is shared across every cognition no matter where you are. Christmas is synonymous with gifts, lighting, santa and even trees that are decorated till the top with all the hopes and hard work of a family together. Even if family is not there with you at that moment, it is the joy of doing something together even with your friends or people who are there just with you at that time when there is a chilly weather with little or less warmth. This feeling is so important for everyone who is breathing this cold life at such a stage of humanity when a virus has been so close to erasing us all. Pandemic is inevitable or not but this happiness is all that you can cherish and cultivate to keep up your spirits in such difficult times.

There is one such interesting story about Christmas, which we feel you must know about…

THE STORY OF THREE WISE MEN

As per the Gospel of Matthew (first book of New Testament) in the christian tradition, there were these three wise men or so-called three kings or magi. Names of these kings haven’t been mentioned but major world traditions recognize them as the following and even Western Christian church regards them as saints who are known as:

  1. Melchoir, or Melichior
  2. Caspar, also known as Gaspar, Jaspar, Jaspas or Gathaspa.
  3. Balthazar, also known as Balthasar, Bithisarea and Balthassar.

These three wise men brought three gifts to the infant Jesus after he was born. Saint Melchoir brought the gift of gold to baby Jesus, followed by frankincense gifted by Caspaar and lastly, Balthazar gifted myrrh. All of these gifts represent a much philosophical meaning to the whole Christian world. Gift of gold signifies the regal status of Jesus and his divine power is represented by the frankincense. Frankincense is already used for so much of spiritual worship across the religion.

The Adoration of Magi  - Early 16th Century (The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Although being born with so much significant grace and divinity, infant Jesus still holds onto his human nature and that’s represented through the gift of myrrh. A myrrh is a resin-like substance that is used for many purposes but when it's burnt it gives out a beautiful fragrance although its appearance signifies something else. Collectively, these three wise men are called as the biblical magi who traditionally distinguished foreigners who brought gifts to the infant Jesus after his birth and became an integral part of Christian tradition and Christmas  history.

Now, let's get to work on how to keep up the tradition this holiday season throughout Christmas and let it be the moments to be remembered for an entire lifetime.

  • PICK THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS TREE

This is a crucial part of celebrating Christmas, if you are willing or want to have a Christmas tree. You must go and pick the perfect Christmas tree for a complete wintery family experience. At first, you need to take your measuring tape out and get your space measured out to know the exact required space. The next step is to decide whether to cut an actual tree or get an artificial one. Once you decide, you can go and grab a tree from a yard sale or some good place that grows trees dedicated to Christmas.

Mostly, noble fir, or white pine is used for making a Christmas tree. If you get it cut, then wrap it up nicely to transport all of it in good condition. Add a lot of clean water inside the pot where you would make the Christmas tree stand and once you get them all in balance. You can put up your Christmas decorations on the tree and get all your family to work for the next step.

  • DECORATING A CHRISTMAS TREE LIKE A PROFESSIONAL

Shop all decorative items weeks before in advance to avoid the surge rate during christmas holidays. You can shop all the good quality wreaths, socks and LED Lights for christmas. Even fluffy artificial snow can be bought to decorate the branches.

Follow a particular theme while decorating, you need to know different color palettes that would go well for your tree. You can decorate a Christmas tree in this way to balance all the decor and make it look like a professionally decorated Christmas tree. Selecting lights is delicate stuff and getting those lights that suit well all around your tree. Pixie lights or fairy lights are a must to decorate over the tree branches and edges.

Other decorative items can be placed all along the walls of your house and that could set an overall Christmas vibe for everyone. From Santa's staple red socks to wreaths must be put wherever you live to add that extra touch of winter homecoming feeling for the guests of your life.
